Honestly not what I expected, but enjoyable and a bit of a rollercoaster. Very different from the movie but I prefer it.

This book was amazing. I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype but I believe it really did! I was shocked as the story went on and I really didn’t expect it to go the way it would. You really feel, in my experience, like you’re also going crazy as the story went. The ending was also just as good and still kept me hooked and on the edge of my seat! The story did a good job making you wonder and question things as well as really make you feel the vibe and points that are happening. And then going back and reviewing and analyzing past events even as the story goes on. The one thing that did bug me is some of the descriptions of things felt so repeated. Like I get it, why are we describing it a hundred times in one or two paragraphs… But otherwise! Great book and was shocked to see there are sequels!

I’ve read a couple of Freida’s books now and this one isn’t quite my favorite. I found it overall okay. I didn’t really enjoy many of the characters, feeling bad at certain points for them but that’s the only extent it went to. Though some parts I found I figured out, others I didn’t. While I enjoyed the pacing and the overall plot as a whole, it wasn’t my favorite. It felt like a quick read and an alright one to get to. I feel like it tried to be deep and woven in plot points and relationships you slowly unwind, but it just didn’t exactly hit the mark I hoped it would. I wouldn’t completely disregard it, but I wouldn’t recommend it and would pick some of her other works before this one. Though I did enjoy the turtle facts and the formatting of this first part of the book with different forms of communication. Overall I’d say.. okay!
