    WOW AMAZING

Oh we’re SO back. I have DNFed about 10 books since the beginning of this year and it’s been driving me insane. I’ve genuinely felt like there was a hole in my heart because I love reading but have felt so disconnected from it. AND THEN THIS BOOK?!?!?! YALL this book lit a fire in my soul. I read this book in less than three days. Just ate it up. Such a cute and fun love story, the mystery kept me engaged, the world was so immersive and easy to love, the characters were bright and lively and felt so real. I’m so happy that this is a SERIES and I can keep riding this high for three more books. Thank you T. Kingfisher for everything you do. I love you so much and wish I could marry you.

Not me googling when air boat tours were invented to figure out when the hell this story takes place. What time period is this?? The setting is so confusing it’s making it hard for me to finish it. Also the writing is.. not good. There are too many “telling not showing” details. This is a good concept but the execution is making me think about another DNF this year 🥲

I just realized that I find the male loneliness is more horrifying than cannibalism because I couldn't shake my disgust at the mc.

  • New to horror, what does reading horror feel like?

Hi! I’m trying to broaden my reading horizons and have been intrigued by getting into horror lately (hence why I’m here lol).

But I’m genuinely confused about something. I understand how horror movies scare you, like jump scares, music, visuals, etc etc. But when it comes to books, it’s words on a page, so I’m very intrigued how that fear translates through writing alone

So what does reading horror actually feel like? Do you get jump-scare level scared somehow, or is it more of a slow “something’s not right” feeling? Do you feel tense the whole time? Unsettled? Paranoid?

I’m honestly just trying to wrap my brain around how authors create that experience on the page before I dive in 😭 I’m nervous
