Linus seems like the typical person who is afraid of his surroundings, submissive in an oppressive work environment. The greyness of the working world is contrasted by the magic and the orphanage, where for now the children seem happy. I still don't know what to expect.

  • Adaptations and books

Do you read books after watching their adaptation and vice versa? I feel it's quite common for fans of a book to watch the adaptation, but for me personally after realizing a series/movie is also a book I run to it. It's come to a point where I'm genuinely surprised when a good movie doesn't stem from a book

For example recently I watched down with love, a 2000s rom com set in the 60s, and I found it so refreshing and funny I was sure it had a book. Turns out, it doesn't! Or well, it does, but it was published after the movie came out, and though it's on my tbr, I still don't know if it's an actual book or the script of the movie

Have you come across a similar situation?

I also know of ppl who refuse to read a book after watching the movie or vice versa. My mom's like that, it doesn't matter if the book/movie's better, she absolutely will not read/watch it cause she thinks it'll ruin her experience of the story. I see it usually as an expansion, but I don't have high hopes for movie adaptations. Reading a book after watching the movie always adds detail to the story, but usually ends up ruining the magic of the adaptation

  • What's your longest library hold wait period right now?

I was vaguely interested in reading Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman, and put a hold on the ebook with Libby. On February 2nd I was the 136th person it line and now, over six months later, I'm... 57th! Hooray!

My library only has one digital copy. I know wait periods can be crazy, especially for new releases, but this book came out in 2012 so it's extra funny to have such a long wait time. I could go get the physical edition but I'm not chomping at the bit to read this book ASAP, and more importantly, I'm in it for the long haul!! This is a matter of pride now, of seeing how dedicated I am to waiting this out.

What's the longest you've waited for a library hold and does anyone currently have a crazy wait period for a book that's already out?

  • Have you ever...?

Have you ever, mid-book, switched formats?

I started reading Guards! Guards! on the 3rd, and I'm around 80ish pages in. I've got it in ePub format that I'm reading on my phone.

I absolutely adore this book so far, but reading digitally has been a bit of a struggle (brain goes brrt with distractions, lol). So on payday, I'm planning to pick up a physical copy (also the start of my Discworld physical collection).

I'm curious if anyone else has switched from ebook to physical, or vice-versa, and why? Or, or audiobook to physical/digital and vice-versa.

  • How to review audiobooks

I haven't listened to a lot of audiobooks yet and I'm struggling to review the narration. Any tips? I'll mention that I've read it in audiobook form or is there a way to select this? Should I mention at which speed I've listened to it? I also feel like I can't properly judge the written book when only listening to the audiobook. I normally make a ton of annotations and can't really do them while listening so I don't think I can grasp my reaction fully ... 🤔

  • maximum books reading at once??

so... do you guys have a hard limit on how many books you'll read at once? what is that number determined by? i somehow keep reading like 6 books at the same time and now i'm curious what other people do and how y'all manage!

i tend to just... borrow 1 book that has like no one waiting for it, 2 books of different genres that i can pause at any time and not feel pressure about it, and then the rest on top of that are whatever holds become available and i want to read them next. especially if it's a book that has been on hold for a looong time and i've been waiting quite a few weeks, i'll just go ahead and borrow it and collect my loans like a little gremlin.

...i also want to note that someone had mentioned in a previous discussion (i forgot who - if they show up or i remember, i'll add their user here!) that once you borrow a book on libby and make sure you have the book downloaded, you can go on airplane mode, return the book on a different device, and keep the book for however long you need to read it. i only just now did it because i amassed too many delicious books this time around, whereas the last time this happened i just devoured them fast enough before my loan deadlines. so thank you to whoever that was!

Libro mooooolto lungo.

  • Is there a way to find people with high overlap?

Hi! You know the overlap percentage when you enter a person's profile? I think it would be cool to find people who's books overlap a lot with mine. (like finding my reader besties 😁) Is there a way to make this kind of search?
