Mae is a young graduate who has been in a dead end job when she gets the opportunity to work at a ground breaking tech company that claims to value community. She becomes entangled in the company dynamics and they slowly entice her to become a part of the “community” and commit to sharing all aspects of her life. The books progresses as she continues to lose autonomy to the company’s twisted ideals and mission.
The concept of this book is intriguing and can serve as a wake up call for our relationship with technology today. However, the execution of the book was stale and uninteresting. It felt like I was being preached to the entire time. The loss of privacy themes were about as subtle as a blaring fire alarm. Maybe this is good for YA but did not love the execution overall.
