Enemies of the State is a high-stakes queer romance between two middle-aged men trying (in their own positions) to save the world and each other.

Tal Bauer writes dangerous, action-packed scenes, with intricate mystery all the while juggling a realistic romance. I have no dislikes to mention. I've been speculating about the identity of the state's enemy until the very end.

The romance is a subplot so tightly interwoven into the main MC's lives that you cannot help but breathe with them and their feelings. Their intimacy is not forced and definitely not risky. It's more about making love than having a kinky sex.

Though it's a thriller, there isn't as much death as in other thrillers, where characters are sacrificed for less. Tal Bauer manages to keep their characters alive in the most realistic ways, even after being grievously wounded.

The story of Jack and Ethan doesn't end here; they continue to pursue the dangerous territory of unheard-of queer relationships and high-stress job positions that hold the whole world's safety on their shoulders.
