Living in the margins of good (and bad) books. Expect reviews, overly personal reflections and a preference for chasing books that will devastate me like “Where the Red Fern Grows” did at 11.

I think most women growing up in America in a semi religious community are familiar with the heaping serving of shame they force feed girls about our own sexuality, desire and value.

Why buy the cow when the milk is free? In sixth grade I had a teacher tell me a woman’s value is tied to her purity. No surprise then it took me years of therapy and introspection and READING to reframe how I viewed myself and my sexuality.

What are our choices then with this type of rhetoric built in to our childhood? We can try to come to grips with the ways we were raised and work HARD to eliminate the shame from inside of us or we hold on to the shame in tight fists and it becomes anger and judgement toward others. It becomes righteousness and a sense of superiority.

I’m not saying it’s ok, but I do understand how shame can twist us.

    It’s just not fair sometimes.

    This is fiction right? Right?

    nervous laughter

Because it feels a little too real.

To campaign for a traditional lifestyle while also running a business, having your own money/ bank account and employees AS A WOMAN is wild work. Like girl, are you ok?

This book is doing a good job so far of capturing trad wife influencer culture.

I have so many thoughts but most of them are expletives so I’m just going to keep reading.

This is SERIOUSLY RAGE INDUCING. James is a literal pos. Honestly, the fact that men can just spontaneously up and leave their entire families after 25 YEARS?! And have no care in the world?! WHAT. DO. YOU. MEAN?! And the women are expected to just “keep calm and carry on”….yeah, go f*ck yourself 🤬

A weird deserted palace, overtaken by ocean waves and lived in by only two (?) people who don’t seem to have any idea who they are? Yeah, I’m locked in.
