AMBIT staat voor Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative treatment. Het is een werkwijze die is ontwikkeld door het Anna Freud Centre in London voor de behandeling van cliënten die zeer moeilijk bereikbaar zijn voor hulp. Ambit is geen specifieke therapievorm of protocol, maar een werkwijze, een manier van denken. Het is een teamvergadering en opvat praktische hulpmiddelen die ingezet kunnen worden in de behandeling van cliënten met ernstige en complexe problemen, die een ambivalente relatie hebben met hulp. Ambit vraagt van behandelaren dat zij steeds blijven zoeken naar de balans in de (on)mogelijkheden die er zijn in een specifieke setting: bij een specifieke doelgroep, binnen hun organisatie en tussen lokale evidentie en wetenschappelijke kennis. Deze flexibiliteit van AMBIT maakt dat zij breed kan worden ingezet bij een scala aan cliënten en dat de praktische invulling er in iedere setting en bij elke doelgroep anders uit kan zien. AMBIT in de praktijk is het eerste Nederlandstalige boek over AMBIT en beschrijft de essentie van deze effectieve werkwijze.
