Let me just say that I did grab this book without fully understanding the plot synopsis which is my bad! It literally says Riley's animal murders keep escalating after the accidentally on purpose kills her ex girlfriend's hedgehog. Like, what did I think was going to happen?

I read the hedgehog scene and it was really hard for me to handle, but I decided to push on. It was my fault that I grabbed a book that wasn't exactly to my taste so I wanted something constructive to say with my feedback. And I will say I found Irina's chapters to be interesting and I liked her as a character, I was tempted to just read her chapters honestly. However Riley was someone I really struggled with. And of course there was the hedgehog thing but there was more. I just found her to be so annoyingly bitter about her breakup with her ex. Riley couldn't go more than 2 seconds without thinking of her ex and calling her a bitch. Like oh my god, I'm bored, it's giving femcel. Maybe she changes as the book goes on but that was my experience up to the point that I read.

I read another review from someone who said they're a pretty regular splatterpunk reader and they struggled with this one and recommended those who are sensitive to animal violence to pass. You don't have to tell me twice, I will take that advice and put this book down before I leave too disturbed and upset.

My sincerest apologies to the author on this one, I was not the target audience here and I should have realized that before I picked up the book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an opportunity to read an advance DRC, all opinions are my own.
