Frieda books are very hit or miss for me. That being said, I'm really not sure where this one landed. I liked the premise and the atmosphere, but there were several things that really bothered me while reading. It was a little hard to suspend my disbelief for most of the novel. I'm not sure if I'm overreacting or if the chatacters truly were just insufferably stupid. The ending saved it for me. I really enjoyed that and, after finishing, those things don't bother me quite as much. So a win, I guess? I'm really unsure about this one, but I'm also not sorry that I read it. Do with that what you will!

I haven't been super blown away by the McFaddens I've picked up, but I have this one in paperback 'cause I impulse-bought it at the grocery store... so I'll give McFadden one more, I guess. I've just not yet found one that shows me why she sells so well.

Okay, was it the best thing I've ever read? No. But was it fun? Absolutely! It's atmospheric and twisty and pretty fast-paced. For a four hour audiobook I'd definitely recommend. The characters were easy to relate to and side with or against. The minor characters were underdeveloped, but for a short novel that's fun? I can overlook that. Definitely didn't see the end coming until later in the novel, and I felt like the ending was satisfying. Overall good read!

This one was a lot of fun! A little slow to start, but definitely ramps up at the end and makes it worth it. It's not my favorite from Jennifer Hillier, but it's definitely a fun, twisty book to sink into for summer!
