Oh no I’m remembering why I don’t like BKB books. So much unnecessary conversational tennis! Back and forth and back and forth.

Also I mistakenly thought this was a short story, no way I can carry on reading this nonsense for another 350 pages. It’s a DNF for me I’m afraid!

I am reading my favourite book series to my 10 year old and am delighted he loves it as much as I did. We finished Hitchhikers Guide last week and he asked if we could dive straight into this one. I'm delighted to be exploring this world and Douglas Adams' incredible imagination again with him.

  • Finally deleted my GoodReads account.

I spent far too long doubling up and using Pagebound alongside GoodReads but I realised this weekend that I absolutely do not need to do that. It is a waste of my time and it still gives clicks/engagements to Bezos.

Pagebound has delivered a far more enjoyable platform with nary an evil billionaire in sight! Thank you for all your hard work.

Not the biggest BKB fan but I’m feeling festive and this looks like a fun little read! 🤶🏻🎄

This one was a lot of fun! I loved the MCs and story, and could really see how Garwood inspired many (inferior) HR books I’ve attempted to read previously.

I had a couple of quibbles: the villain was a bit of a let down and I feel we could have spent more time getting to know their backstory and reasons for their actions. I also found my eyes rolling on occasion when Jamie veered into Mary Sue territory.

A solid read otherwise, and it is now one of my favourite HR books.

“By making herself indispensable to her father, she’d forced him to value her. Jamie had confused love with need”

Really enjoyed Alec figuring out why Jamie’s love language is acts of service 😍

“She started three wars the first week”

Jamie I think you are fast catching up with Jessica (Lord of Scoundrels) as my favourite HR heroine of all time! 😍

“He was inordinately pleased with her. She hadn't given her heart to the Englishman. She didn't love him. Alec grinned. He didn't know why it mattered to him, but it did matter... fiercely.”

WE KNOW WHY, ALEC, YOU BIG LUMMOX!

Really wish Ali would stop with the Elon Musk mentions. Talk about a vibe killer 😔

Having said that, shortly after she redeems herself with this beauty from Jack:

Is this a safe space for me to admit I always skim the science stuff in Ali’s books and find the whole “terrible career ruining article” storyline in this book utterly ridiculous?
