I skimmed most of this tbh because the premise was ridiculous. The FMC irritated me and the MMC felt like he was cobbled together from a thousand other book boyfriends. Disappointed in Elizabeth O’Roark as I have loved other books of hers.

Well now that was an absolute DELIGHT! Fantastic writing, pace, characters, world building. Loved it all. And no godawful factory line spice!

I’m enjoying this sample so much I just broke my “no more buying books for my Kindle” rule so I could carry on reading it.

Oh no that didn’t work on any level at all. What a mess.

Ugh Harry Potter reference jump scare. That aside I am enjoying listening to this one, the narrator has a calming voice.

This book gave me Time Travellers Wife vibes (one of my fav books). I really enjoyed it but I do wish the FMC had been a bit more curious about what she was taking part in, and maybe a bit more fleshed out as a person. I suppose that was part of the story though - helping us to see what happens when “good” people blindly follow orders and the horrors that can follow. I hadn’t realised Graham Gore was an actual person until the end of the book (and I watched “the Terror”!) - bravo to Kaliane for bringing him to life so well.

The next evening I went to meet her at the pub she had suggested, an old-fashioned watering hole close to the Ministry, poky and bizarrely fuggy and upholstered in leather. It was like being inside the elbow of a patched jumper” Kaliane’s writing is an absolute JOY and so evocative. I know exactly the kind of pub she’s talking about.

Her mother wanted her to be Prime Minister, although “regrettably she also drilled the karmic repercussions of gossip and lying to me - the fourth Buddhist precept is unambiguous on this - and thus at the age of eight my political career was over before it began”. lol.

Sometimes you just need a nice easy comfort reread.

What a disappointment. Boring, chaotic and repetitive.
