I love everything that Lola writes. Honestly its well thought out, messy and unreliable characters who experience real life, in a world that does look at the colour of your skin. I loved finding out how each story for the 3 main characters ended and I was actually happy with it, even though none of the arcs ended the way I anticipated! Beautiful writing, an auto buy author for sure.

I really enjoyed this!! I love a 'right person wrong time' type of romance, with messy characters and banter. Very well written, lots of humour and also deep meaningful chapters as well. Really enjoyed.

That was good! I liked the characters, i liked the plot. It was heartwarming and also hilarious at the same time. At the beginning it reminded me of You With A View, especially with the whole social media references.

SO SO COOL. Writing 6 different POVs and making them all unique must be so hard but damn was this done so well! And I loved every single POV but for sure was most intrigued by Wren and August!!! Always love the angst. What a cool concept, im not a dark academia fan but it definitely read more like a trial troped fantasy- a bit like the Prison Healer with so many cool twists.

I love this author and Slow Burn Summer was beautiful to read! To begin with, I was unsure. I didnt like the FMC Kate and I found MMC Charlie interesting but nothing special..... and before you know it, I've read the whole book, loved the characters and the crazy plotline. What stood out to me is the duty of care that publishers should have for their authors.

Hey that wasn't bad at all!!! First third i really enjoyed because it was so different to the normal rules of romantasy but second third I started to really feel uncomfortable and then somewhere along the way, I started to enjoy again đ Final third was quite fast paced but I'll allow it - i wish it slowed down a little to let us enjoy the outcome. Overall, pleasantly surprised!

Having read almost all of Marie Luâs YA books, I was curious how sheâd do writing an adult fantasy, that too an urban fantasy. I really enjoyed Red City, but Iâll note that it was very dark read, much darker than I was expecting it to be in several aspects. The prose was really beautiful, more sophisticated than that of her YA novels. The world building felt effortless, there was no info dumping and everything was weaved so well into the action. I loved learning about Angel City, an alternative version of Los Angeles. I feel like Luâs feelings for her city were apparent throughout her descriptions of the city, of the duality of beauty but also darkness that exists there. One of my favorite aspects of the story was the commentary on the immigrant experience, on belonging, and on the tolls that it can take on a parent-childâs relationship. I appreciated the pacing of the novel; for a story thatâs an urban fantasy and has to essentially introduce two separate organizations and characters, there was no dragging, and instead everything made sense, and was well-plotted. The action scenes were so much fun to read, they reminded me of Legend. The characters were so well crafted and the heart of this story I think. In essence, Ari and Sam felt like each otherâs yin and yang. Their story as childhood friends to enemies had so much tension throughout. Their own internal conflicts, plus the larger conflicts in the plot, really kept me flipping the pages. The side characters were fascinating as well. For the most part, they felt fleshed out, their motivations and desires explained well. I will say some of the scenes left me wanting a bit more, mainly I wanted to see the characters interacting more. Iâm very curious to see how the sequel will turn out.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book!
