Wait, Peeta is a boy? I always perceived that as a girl's name.
Of course, Gale also sounds like a girl's name to me.
[EDIT: I never thought there was any romance in this book. I never knew anyone's relation to anyone else except Katniss and Prim being sisters. I was not imagining a love triangle. This never occurred to me until some comments here mentioned it.]

Can anyone give me a honest description of vibe for this book?
For some reason I have had a really hard time getting into the story so far. I know I can technically look up a vibe like I looked up the synopsis, but I feel like it would be more honest here. I love quirky paranormal books like Fred the vampire and Dirk Cooper paranormal real estate. I thought this book would be similar but itâs going really slow for me. Im so early in the story that I donât want to dnf it if thereâs hope.

Sadly, i didnt love this as much as id like to. One can clearly tell that this was a passion project for the author. and a lot of work went into it. The world is fascinating, even tho we sadly get very little actual worldbuilding, the characters are fun but could definelty be more polished and the same goes for this entire book. It was fun! But there are things i just really didnt enjoy. Mostly, i struggled with our two leads never having any agency over their story, always being stuck getting used and manipulated into situations. It was truly frustrating. I get that the larger plot is important, but i would have enjoyed the two leads having something that they actually to do go well? Both suffer so much, and it feels pointless. Maybe they get to be their own person a bit more in following books, but for now im not sure id read a second in this series.
Ax and Veyre are great characters tho, and their struggles are protrayed really well, giving you an amazing insight into how horrible this world is from two very different perspectives.

I need more queer books in my life, and with Pride Month starting tomorrow, I wanna delve in even more. I don't read a lot of queer fiction, unfortunately, so I'm hoping for some good recommendations.
I really like horror (especially body horror and ghosts), fantasy (currently reading Six of Crows and loving it. I also LOVE fairytales), and sci-fi (dystopian is my favourite but I'd be down to giving extraterrestrial stuff a try).
Most of the queer stuff I've read is comics, which is awesome but I'm also wanting to get into novels too.
Thank you in advance!

This was really fun, but sadly the first half is very weak. You'd think this would start strong, what with the murder and all, but the first half is a lot of the characters standing around and being unsure what to do XD
Thankfully, the second half is amazing and as soon as the antagonist starts appearing themselves, it just becomes soooooo entertaining.
Some of the characters could have been smarter, but ah well. It's not too frustrating, except for three or so scenes, where you will literally shout at them to pls not be that stupid.
I think a follow up to this will be very exciting.
