LiteraryFeline commented on okjustonemorechapter's review of The House of Doors
At first I thought it was going to be a DNF for me because the beginning is so slow, but if you can just muster through the first quarter it becomes so much better after that. It's an extremely interesting book and I loved the setting of it. It was very different from what I've read before and it was nice to broaden my horizon's with this.
There are two pov's as well as two different timelines as this book goes on. Normally this might be confusing, but I found it very easy to figure out what was going on. The chapter heads also make it very clear who is talking and what time period you're in so I don't think this will be an issue for any reader.
Our two pov's include Willie and Leslie:
-Willie is a famous author looking for inspiration as he stays with Leslie and her husband in Penang. He's a closeted gay man who has a wife in the US and a lover that travels with him.
-Leslie is a wealthy woman who is taking care of her sick husband and choosing to trust Willie with her life's tale.
I loved finding out Leslie's secrets and how Willie reacts to them. Once they begin their late night talks is when this book becomes extremely juicy. I always felt like I knew what was going on until the very end and then BAM a plot twist. It was delightful as someone who enjoys hot goss!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for a copy of my ebook!
