Ohh this was so cool!! Thanks to the endless clips of the adaptation that I saw on YouTube Shorts for putting this on my radar. Elizabeth was a super engaging character, this book wouldn't be what it is without her. I love how intense she was, and I've never felt so bad for someone for not giving up and and refusing to live life like she's told, because it only brought her bad things. Some aspects of the narrative were so weird tho 😭 like, every time I saw six-thirty's monolog I was just a little bit anoyed. And I might be the most influenciable person because why do I want to understand chemistry now???

Not sure what i just read lmao I'm laughing at half the reviews starting with those exact words. The concept for the setting is soo fucking crazy, it's such a shame we don't explore it more! I wished I saw more what it was like downtown. Although I guess it makes sense that people who don't work with meat are not affected as someone like Mateo (?) would. That ending was... weird. I wish we saw more of that period before the time skip. And I bet this is an unpopular opinion, but I didn't think it was disturbing enough. It had really scary stuff tho, like the amputees, that shit gave me shivers. I'm not totally sure I would recommend it, but it did stay with me a little after finishing it.

Oh, I think maybe as a kid I would've loved this book. The setting is very palpable, and I found the detailed (and SO mean) description of Mary when she first arrived at the house works so well because you can really picture this super sad looking kid in that empty fucking castle. And, of course, most importantly, the gardens. I loved how they evolved through the book, and how they mirrored both Colin and Mary. And Dickon was the best kid ㅠㅠ. The story was way more simple than I expected? Specially for a book this long. But to its credit, I didn't have any unnecessary parts. It was quite slow, since it locked pretty much any conflict, but enjoyable still.

She's everyone's favorite Argentinean author so I had to read this, for the culture 🇦🇷 also with La Virgen de la Tosquera coming out, which was brilliant, by the way I loved the stories. I don't have the book here so I'm going from memory, but Our Lady of the Quarry was really nice, the slow evolution from jealousy to violence was fantastic. Where are you, Dear Heart? Was maybe the scariest, suuper disturbing, also by far the best ending. Meat did not go where I thought it was going, but really good still, and it had one line that made me nauseous. Kids Who Come Back had real old horror movie vibes, like a Stephen King story (complimentary). The suspense was great, it read very differently from the rest. Back When We Talked to the Dead broke my heart. Overall, I didn't know the stories were going to be disturbing and I loved that about them. Specially in the way it describes sex, masturbation and bodies, specially female bodies. It managed to create uncomfortable mental images without being too obvious or relaying in just explicit sexual content. Enriquez is very good at communicating the decay of cities, places and people, and it gives texture 💥 to everything she writes. Loved them

Ohh it was cute! I know the LITERAL point of the story is that it has low stakes, but I think it still could have conflict, even if it was something chill. They mention she just gives away coffee and cinnamon rolls to all the employees and sometimes to some friends, but since we don't know how much the coffee costed her, it never becomes the source of problems. That could have been an easy conflict, maybe? The Elf people who invented cafés just having random origins for Italian words like latte and barista did make me giggle, ngl. And all these random characters showing up at random during the book, being nice to Viv and then leaving for the day only to reveal at the end WHY they found a place at the store almost every day was super duper cute. I did like that. I might read the following books, seeing how it only took me a few hours to read this one

I can't think straight right now but oooooooooommmggggggg Racheeeeeeeeeeeel She does the soft, intimate, non-explosive, so so sweet ending better than anyone. Although I kinda understand people who think that this is, idunno, ooc?? but I think it's so perfect.
