Love Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and getting more into horror and other genres. Star Wars started it all, and I'll never shut up about it

"Took me back to that wonderful word: story. It seemed to me at an early age that all human communication - whether it's TV, movies, or books - begins with somebody wanting to tell a story. That need to tell, to plug into a universal socket, is probably one of our grandest desires. And the need to hear stories, to live lives other than our own for even the briefest moment, is the key to the magic that was born in our bones."

Boy's Life is a truly magical story and has instantly become one of my favourite books that I have read, and I knew just a couple of pages in that it would be. It made me think, laugh, cry, and feel like a kid again. It's a book that I didn't know that I needed to read, and now it's a book that I think everybody needs to read at some point in their life.

The true beauty and magic of this book is following this young boy's life. Following him through many ups and downs. His relationships with friends and parents, and how they grow throughout. And also how he grows and experiences life. It brings me such nostalgia, even if my childhood was very dissimilar to Cory's.

Robert McCammon has such an easy to read prose but still uses his words wisely to write some beautiful passages and to capture the wonderful feeling of youth. He does all of this while also touching on themes of racism, grief, escapism and many more. I look forward to reading a lot more of his books this year, as well as coming back to this many times in my lifetime.

"Don't think too hard. Sometimes thinking gets in the way of doing."
