I binged this book on my post op bed, and well, it wasn't as hard as I expected it to be. But I understand what happens to younger minds who stumble upon this book. I'm not saying is bad or that it only has shock value, because I would be missing the whole point of the story. The story is good, it is to where we are headed, in a way, if we are not careful enough. I feel it's like the 1984 of our days. To be honest all you gotta do is to go into a rabbit hole to see how we are not so far from Agustina's dystopia (and for your own sanity, whatever you find, take it with a grain of salt).

The story should be a warning of what happens when society doesn't have a critical mind on its own. To question the established, to question the process, and to question the ends is the key to maintain a sharp mind against injustice.

As I said before, I wish we were further from this reality and to stop being submissive looks more like a dystopia itself.

Edit: thanks to your suggestion I made this into a list ✨☺️ please check it out, I'll be adding more books as soon as I remember them. 📚

May I suggest some Mexican books for this readalong? I think these are a great addition to the challenge and might as well change the view on Mexican writers for some readers. My suggestions:

The houseguest by Amparo Davila Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo Aura by Carlos Fuentes

These are classics and worth reading.

Ps. I feel quite sad because this (and so many others) readalong have no titles that caught my attention since I'm not a booktok girl or wattpad devoted I feel there's not much for me and I like badges :c.

  • Are you a polyreader?

Are you one of those people who only reads one book at a time or do you have a bunch on the go at once?

I think of myself as a polyreader (and I blame it on my ADHD). I have 14 on the go at the moment, although one of those is a reread. If you do read more than one book at a time - do you ever have problems picking up from where you left off?
