Any book whose subjects range from James Beard to Truman Capote to General Mills to the B-52s is bound to grab my attention. What is Queer Food is an achingly honest series of essays delving into the lives of LGBTQ+ chefs, restauranters, and food critics.

Elise Loehnen achieved mixed success in her exploration of the seven deadly sins. I was hooked by Chapter 1: Goodness with the history of Mary Magdalene and the erasure of women from Christianity. Unfortunately, the proceeding chapters on the sins themselves were less grounded in history and research and more in anecdotal experiences by Loehnen herself.
