Hello! Please give your queer horror book recommendations below! I accept indie and traditionally published books into the quest as long as the book is listed on PB or can be added to PB’s library. We are sorely in need of books with reps including: Indigenous MCs/authors, Pacific Islander MCs/authors, Intersex MCs/authors, Asexual MCs/authors, and Non-Binary MCs/authors. I’m always looking for books with diverse representation so please still feel free to recommend a book even if it doesn’t include a character/author with the representation above, just note that books with those representations will likely be added first because, well, I don’t have a lot/any books with them in it listed in the quest and I would like this quest to be as diverse as possible.
Horror has a somewhat loose term here (as mentioned in my introduction post) as publishers don’t always list books with horror elements as “horror”. So we’ll say horror and horroresque books (if you can squint and call it horror, then you’re welcome to include it as a recommendation). There’s not a lot of rules to recommending books but here are some: 1.) Obviously all books recommended here should be queer in some way or shape (“hetero” asexuals are still queer). 2.) It should be a well written book in the manner of it not being full of simple spelling and grammar mistakes. I will likely be reading every single book that gets added to this quest but please don’t recommend a book that couldn’t be submitted as a creative writing paper in a school project. Don’t subject me or fellow PBers to that. 3.) Look to see if your recommendation has already been recommended below before commenting. I don’t want this post to be flooded with the same book being recommended 10 times. 4.) Please tell me what rep is included in the book if it’s not already obvious from the book blurb.
I may not include all recommendations into the quest or respond to comments but I will at least look at your recommendations and will consider it (especially if it has a lot of upvotes/comments). THANK YOU!
UPDATE AS 2/13/2026: Going forward most if not all additions to this quest will be newer books. We're still in need of asexual, polyam, and intersex representation so those additions might be some older books if necessary, as well as any other marginalized representation that this quest is lacking. However, generally speaking, most books will have been published in 2025 and onward.
Another new note is that I will not be including more than one book from an author. I believe there are plenty of queer horror and horror-adjacent authors for me to not flood the quest with a bunch of AJW books (no shade to the glorious AJW). And if you're like 'where is [x] author', I may be waiting to add a new book of theirs to the quest instead of an already-popular-and-in-a-handful-of-quests book.

A very gay possession story about loneliness and giving into the dark things inside you that you try to hide and love to let out. The narrative swings with the main character’s indecisiveness in a frustrating but relatable way that is pretty realistic truth be told.
Kirsty Logan reviews it best - Horny. Gory. Relatable.

Embracing the body and reclaiming otherness, these books use horror to redefine notions of womanhood and monstrosity.

Female-driven Cronenbergian apocalyptic cosmic horror that has a darkly comic note and never takes itself too seriously. Characters were rather shallow but the breakneck speed of the narrative, which works, somewhat absolves this issue.

Reality is overrated! These surreal and absurd fiction books remove logic to reveal their truths. Here the impossible is inevitable, the strange is necessary, and Kafkaesque is only the beginning.

Read for research for a horror writing project - and suffice to say, the idea will work for the genre. This book is a good, simple introduction to gnostic ideology which is pretty dark and rather antithetical to most religions. An interesting, if unsettling, read.
Also, this app needs a better way to review non-fiction.
