I love SFF and SpecFic especially by marginalized authors. I'm recently in my romance and classics era but I'll read anything if it's compelling enough.

I realize that the radio drama was both abridged and dramatized. It was good in the way that I was reminded of Village of the Damned (1995) which was based on the 1960s movie which was based on the book that this radio drama is based on. I loved the John Carpenter movie for it's schlocky horror and special effects because it was fun and nostalgic for me. The horror for me was well before the Children grew, it was the idea of becoming pregnant knowledge or consent.

The audio drama has interesting ideas but they were not fully fleshed out especially taking place in the 1950s. This could have been the version I listened to but I've heard some things that have been left out and 😬 they didn't age well.

The people of Midwich were way more accepting of the alien pregnancy at first than I believe they actually would have been considering gender roles of the time. That being said, I'm now interested in watching the TV Series, The Midwich Cuckoos which modernizes this story and feels like it makes more sense for the world. It also feels like it might also really dig into the horror of having your body be used as an incubator without your knowledge or permission which is kind of apt considering today's climate.

    Favourite new words?

I have been learning SO many new words from reading this year and wanted to hear if anyone had favourite new words?

I keep a list on my phone and so far these are some faves: Alacrity Imperceptible Intransigent Mordantly Sordid

Anyone else have an expanding vocab? Books that really pushed your active vocab? Jargon that you're surprised is more common than you thought? Or! Do you have favourite words that you wish more people knew and used?

    Language is so cool ✨️🫶
