Hey PB,
As what it says in the title, Iโve heard lots of good things about Tchaikovsky and Iโm trying to broaden my reading on speculative fiction. His name always comes up as one of the best in the genre but when I checked his bibliography, it was quite daunting. ๐ตโ๐ซ It turns out heโs quite prolific! Can someone please recommend what could be a good starting point? Preferably standalone, novellas or short stories only please. ๐๐ผ I donโt think I can commit to a series right now.
Also, just a heads up that Iโll be saving this post so I can eventually go back to the people who made recommendations and let them know when Iโve read it. Thanks in advance! โค๏ธ

Very curious to see who some authors are that you will read anything they publish, no matter what.
The only author I can think of for me that's an instant read is Andy Weir. I've loved each of his books- although Artemis isn't quite as good as Project Hail Mary or The Martian.

What are some of your favorite drinks to sip on when youโre reading? ๐
For me, itโs either iced coffee in the morning or a juicy seltzer in the afternoon.

I really wanted to love this one, but unfortunately it was a miss for me.
While I actually enjoyed a lot of the lessons in history and the narrative tone in the first and last parts, there was just too much I could not overlook.
Scotland was my favourite plotline, but I was distracted by the letter/diary entries and not in the way you might think. I absolutely love mixed media in books, but 99% of the letters and diary entries read like just more novel to the point I forgot what they were supposed to be. And no amount of "My Dear Clara" could convince me that third section was a man writing a letter to his wife --- that was clearly the first draft of his novel.
I held out hope for the plot though until the last section, but there were too many inconsistencies. Too many things that didn't make any sense.
But my biggest point of contention with this book is that there is not a single reason why the lead character had to be the lead character. In fact, there were infinite reasons for him not to be! I want this review to be as spoiler free as possible, but needless to say, a scholar (and noble) from England was the last person who should have been entrusted with anything.
