i liked it! i’m getting used to the formula but i’m still entertained. i sort of wish the 2nd joe talpert book took place sooner after the first instead of six years? also he seems like a detective more than a journalist which i love bc it lets me root for someone who isn’t a cop

The main character and real criminal Stéphane thinks he's not like other art thieves. 💁♀️Finkel tells the stories of Breitwieser's many heists or really, casual seeming thefts with great detail making me feel like I was watching them happen. Perhaps this is my preferred form of (super well researched) true crime because the criminal is non-violent even if extremely harmful to society at large and blissfully believes he deserves to own art that he steals. The ending felt good.

The narrator (Lana) annoyed me a little but I did get easily immersed in the details of Asia village and the variety of characters. The audio book voice actor added some fun through good and different Asian accents!

I enjoyed the called backs and little references to the original trilogy and first prequel. There's something so interesting about knowing parts of Haymitch's story going in, in some ways how the book likely ends, but still be so enthralled as we follow his tragic journey.
Post from the Sunrise on the Reaping (The Hunger Games, #0.5) forum
I keep having trouble picturing Haymitch as a young person. My brain is so fixated on the actors from the original trilogy movies, so half the time I'm imagining adult Woody Harrelson in these games. 😅
