God, what a good adaptation the TV show is

With the current discourse hating on Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights, I’d love to give props for how amazing the Netflix adaptation of the book is. It shows beautifully how you can change so much of the plot and still be faithful to the original.

The LGBTQ+ and feminist themes, the colonialism and slavery themes, they’re obviously not present in the book but the book’s core message is embracing otherness, fighting for the underdogs and it makes total sense for an adaptation to extend those themes to marginalised communities. The show is fully in the spirit of the book so it doesn’t matter if plot is changed. I almost imagine it as a valid, alternative universe.
