A truly disturbing, fascinating novel. Not just a retelling of old fairy tales, but a justified skewering of the society, the media, and certain men reframe and skew the, often tragic, stories of others
Bernice, the surviving victim of a tech bro serial killer; Ruby, a child who survived a predator ( was it a man? A wolf?); to Ashlee, a reality TV winner who learns that television and real life are two different things; Gretel, whose account of her past differs from her brother's and, just maybe, reality; to Raina, whose story breaks the farce of this "therapy group". The characters are, if at times annoying as hell, real, vibrant and relatable.
Then there's Jake/Will. The true villain of the piece. He's there to kit only reframe their stories as he sees fit, he's lost in the delusion that what he says matters. To him, a story is worth only how he spins it, truth be damned. We get a hint if a comeuppance, and hey, he may even skate on free (slime like him tend to do so), but at the very least, give angry women, redeemed by each other, know what he is. And, mega spoiler, The Brothers Grimm's first names were Jacob and Wilhelm.
I enjoyed this. I think *How to Be Eaten" is going to sit with me for a long time.
