I really appreciate how purposeful the authors are about reframing the view on public vs private services and reinforcing it throughout the entire book. This in particular feels like a very concise summary of their main points:
"Privatization drives economic inequality, but it also drives a wedge into the very idea of community by creating differences in how we access public spaces—like parks and libraries—and public services such as Social Security and public education. Universal access is the very point of these public goods, but the profit motive and free-market thinking simply cannot abide the idea of treating everyone equally."
