Raybearer and its larger universe are my new favourite passion. Tarisai really appeals to the largely privileged but disconnected and demonised inner child I host. She's a wonderful example, easy to connect with and constantly trying to learn in an endlessly complex (and stupidly simple) world of greed and compassion. The Arit Empire is so rich and vast, so brimming with ideas and cultures and people you don't get to see for the endlessly vague snow-blindness in media. It feels more real than a lot of more established cabins, to me. Raybearer is the perfect introduction to a world that begs for more words to be written over it. Hopefully we'll get a LOT more from Jordan, plskthx, but this fandom will kick off just as hard as all the traditional high fantasy, I am certain. So I'm braced for some kickass fanfic. You should definitely read this book. And track down Redemptor while you do, you won't want to wait between them.
