I've been sitting with my reviews over this for the past couples days after finishing. I finished this in two days and I feel like that usually means I'm in love with a book. But I was not. I wanted more and I did not receive that. I felt the showing of the bonds between friend group was not effective for me. Which was the premise of the book. I wanted the messiness of friendship. Some relationships were more tighter which is real but I felt it wasn't even between. Some characters were definitely better fleshed out than others.

The writing was great! But sometimes superfluous without meaning. Did love the moving locations between LA + NYC.

I do wish this was told chronologically, but I did fall into the rhythm of the jumping between time periods.

The ending was less than good. Very stupid.

I will re-read when I'm in a different place of my life, just to measure my life against this.

Another thing, the lack of class reflection left a bitter taste in my mind , something something about black millennials of a certain class. I haven't complete thought through out yet.

These first chapters are not doing it for me which sucks bc I’m so interested in the premise . We rally on

  • literary articles about books/plays

i was wondering if you guys have ever read or written literary articles about a book or a play you loved? i find it so fascinating and fun that people are able to love and connect with a novel so much that they have to analyze it, and the topics it discusses, and connect it to notions and devices that already exist it literature. i'm an english major and i wrote a paper about reading shakespeare's twelfth night through queer lenses, i just looked at sebastian and antonio and i was like "something's gay is happening here", and it was so fun much to write

for those of you who've read realm of the elderlings, i found an article on jstor about the use of epigraphs and negative space in assassin's apprentice and it's so interesting! i've also been thinking about exploring the dynamic between fitz and the fool and comparing it to other relationships in the series, or comparing the fool to other jesters in literature and the role they serve inside their works, because he's so clever and unique and unlike any character i've ever seen

so if you've read a good article, or got an idea you've wanted to explore, feel free to share them!
