  • Are Sarah J. Maas books worth it?

Hey all! So I’ve been wondering this for a while: are Sarah J. Maas books worth the read? I’ve seen a lot of people on here and on Booktube rave about her stuff, but with the controversy surrounding her and my pickiness with the fantasy genre, I’m not sure if I’ll actually like her books. Maybe I just have book FOMO idk 😭😭 What are yalls thoughts?

    I loved this bit

“I don’t know if I’ll ever fully understand you but I do want to try. More than that, I think I realise now that I don’t always have to agree with you to see you as a friend and an equal.”

Such wise words to take beyond this lovely story.

The book is LOVELY and SO much queerer than I expected from the description!! The pride is lyrical, the descriptions are lush, and the characters are lovable. 10/10 so far.

  • Libraries have to continously pay a fee for e-media

I recently have learned that a lot of libraries have to continously pay a fee for e-books and audiobooks; for example they can keep them for x-months or they have a can be lent x-times before they have to renew their license, and while I understand this from a technical standpoint - e-media can be lent indefinitely and infinitely - I still think this is insane.

Granted I am very socialistic in nature but I think that libraries should be able to get media for a smaller price than we as customers (I understand that this might suck for some authors, but readers who are willing to wait weeks, if not months for a book were less likely to buy it anyway?)

What do you think? Any librarians can confirm this? also from other countries than the US? I couldn't find anything for my local library unfortunately.

I just want to say that I've been listening to the audiobook with my husband and we've been thoroughly enjoying this book! He even said to me "this makes me want to read more books" 👀😂

I called a plot point Well, Grace in the earlier timeline is meeting these people who are ostensibly the science nerds on the primary and secondary crews to go on Project Hail Mary mission, but obviously we the reader know Grace ends up going instead. I jokingly said "they get pregnant together and then don't want to go"-- which I haven't gotten far enough to know if that's a for-sure plot point, BUT the guy just told Grace that he's in a sexual relationship with the woman, SO... my husband was like !!!!?!!?? so shocked. But maybe I'll turn out to be wrong 😂

There was just a reference to Lord of the Rings and I'm so tickled! This kind of satire reminds me of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C Wrede and I love it so much!

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

The premise of this book is fascinating—an interactive murder mystery? Sounds fresh, innovative.

I really wanted to like this, but sadly it just didn’t deliver for me. It felt very slow, hard to get into, with a lot of legal jargon. Too long and tedious to be the immersive experience it claims.
