Yoshimoto's prose is always lovely. As always her depiction of places and people leave you feeling warm. I just also wasn't a fan of how a lot of the romantic relationships went, as well as how quickly the dreams relating to her dad were over with? While it was in character, I felt like it wasn't delved into as much. I do realize Yoshimoto's works generally focus on the mundane, but I thought the dreams would be more significant. It also felt a bit like a chore to read a lot of the general outlooks on gender/relationships that are normalized in Japanese culture.
