I want to expand my library with diverse authors! I rarely read with the author in mind when I read for entertainment, but as I learn more about problematic authors I want to see what else is out there. Who are your favourite authors who demonstrate diversity, either through their writing or their lived experiences? Or both š

Hello Boundlings!
Thereās nothing I love more than a hidden gem author! One thing about the rise of books on social media is that a lot of indie authors are being picked up by publishers (which is amazing for them!) but there are still so many indie authors out there that a lot of us donāt know about yet.
I would love some recommendations for indie authors who write, ⢠Contemporary romance/Rom coms ⢠Historical romance (Regency & Victorian are two periods I love but am open to others) ⢠Fantasy
Spice & No spice are both fine, although if itās a heavily spiced book I do prefer a decent plot with my smut šāāļø

This book made me mad.
It was hard to decide on a rating for this, because the ending and a lot of the book was disappointing, but I was still engaged while reading. I'd rather read a bad book than a boring book, and this wasn't a boring book. However, there was a lot about it that didn't work for me.
First, her family is AWFUL. How did they have absolutely zero redeeming qualities?? And the plot for her family drama felt very unresolved, in my opinion.
I very much disagree with the boy she ended up with. They had no chemistry. He barely had a personality. I realize this is harsh, but I'm just so frustrated that she didn't end up with the other guy who actually had a personality and chemistry with her!
I also felt the ending didn't really wrap everything up that well? It felt very rushed. I felt like things were thrown in there last minute with no buildup just to solve a plot point without any of the characters having to develop much, or like a scapegoat to avoid conflict between characters.
Would I recommend this book? Probably not. However, if you are okay with a not great ending, it was still an engaging read, so you might want to give it a try.
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Young Readers Group for the digital review copy! All opinions are honest and my own.

1/4 of the books Iāve read this year have been in the game changers series and I fear that if iām not reading game changers iām just not as motivated to read, which is very unfortunate. I also set myself the loftiest goal of my adult reading journey so far, 52. A giant step up from my usual 12. But Iāve already read 12 books this year so I figured Iāve set a good pace. I guess iām scared of the potentially oncoming massive slump I usually get into where I read one book until June and then cram in the last half the year.
The good news is I have multiple holds on libby Iām excited about and my two current reads are library books also so they must be read in a timely manner.
Would love to hear anyones thoughts on 2026 reading goals, slumps, and the Game Changerās series! Also what holds or tbr books youāre excited for!

So Iāve been wanting to read the powerless series, but recently Iāve seen that itās apparently a knock off of the Red Queen series. Is that true? And if so, which series should I read instead?

Itās time. Weāre saying it out loud.
What trope makes you immediately reconsider your life choices when you see it in a synopsis?
The chosen one? Love triangles? Amnesia? Insta-love? The "I can fix him" dynamic?
Confess your literary pet peeves below. This is your safe space to vent.

For people that thrift, how do you personally go about it?
I get the majority of my books off of Thriftbooks, I know some people have had bad experiences with them but I personally have only ever gotten one book that wasn't the quality described, and when I contacted them they immediately sent me a replacement, so I like them a lot.
I wish I had thrift stores near me that had books I would actually want to read, not much in terms of speculative fiction around here š
I've tried looking at Pangobooks, but it kind of intimidates me idk why š I feel like the website never works well for me and feels unintuitive, have any of you tried it and liked it?
