Maybe I'm not big-brained enough to follow the "arguments" in this book, but it felt like the author was mostly just rambling about their identity crisis and wanted an excuse to talk about their favorite works of ancient fiction. I would not recommend reading this.

  • Science fiction recommendations by anyone but straight white men

Recently, my girlfriend made a comment that my bookshelf is really lacking in books written by women, queer, and non-white authors. In looking through my library, I think that her observation is very valid and I want to do better about it!

I'm a huge science fiction fan, so I was hoping I could get some suggestions on sci-fi books by women, queer, and non-white authors from you all. For reference, I've already read all of the Martha Wells' Murderbot series (except the most recent one, which I just got), the Parable duology by Octavia Butler, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin, and This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone and really enjoyed them all.

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks so much!

This book is much better than the first book, The Island. After we got a whole book's worth of exposition out of the way, there is actually a story to tell. It also helps that we are introduced to another character and experience their growing relationship. Overall, a decent Minecraft story but I would recommend Mob Squad or Diary of an 8-bit Warrior over this one.

Ryan Grim is relentless in his pursuit to tell us EXACTLY what happened in the National Progressive movement from 2018 - 2023, tweets, backroom meetings and all. I enjoyed learning more about AOC's original campaign and the perspective of established politicians like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, etc. as well as existing political orgs like Justice Democrats and Sunrise Movement. If you enjoy extremely detailed reporting on political campaigns and intrigue then this book is for you.

This is a fun book, exploring the inner lives of Minecraft villagers, who are typically considered to be NPCs who are just interested in trading for emeralds. The diary format is engaging and brings us into the social circle of the main character's village and helps build the tension as conflict looms on the horizon. I appreciate how short it is, mostly due to its audience, but there are a total of eight books now... I'm sure the story could probably be condensed a bit.
