The writing the writing THE WRITING!! This was beautiful. Disturbing. Disgusting. Delicious. I loved this book! I immediately looked up the author to see what else she has written because it was absolutely stunning. This one will sit with me a long time.

Lines from this book play in my head over and over even months after reading it. Deliciously disturbing.

This book made me cry over and over again. I’ll never get over the way Robin Wall Kimmerer writes. This book is a reminder of how we are part of nature and it is part of us in every way.

Absolutely fascinating read! I loved it so much! Tells about the history of beavers and fur trade in America with an unbiased, beautiful kind of storytelling.

Absolutely beautifully written and far more satisfying story than the original Carmilla that it’s based on. I loved every second of it. It gave the characters far more depth than the original and the storytelling was top tier. The kind of writing that you can drink for days. Loved it.

Not worth the read. A whole lot of pseudoscience and misinterpretation of history. The author completely glazed over the violence in American and Israeli colonialism. This was clearly a piece of propaganda pretending to be based in science. The author spends long periods ranting about the violence of Islam, even referring to Islam as barbaric while simultaneously trying to justify the violence during the crusades even though acknowledging such violence would only add to his argument that humanity is inherently violent with it being coded into our very DNA. On top of that, the author uses little scientific data and what he does use can easily be interpreted differently. Overall, this was a completely useless read and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. In fact, I think I’ll inform the bookstore where I found it that it does not belong with the science section where I discovered it.
