It’s a comfort read . Sure astrology is something one can do for fun and not believe in. I like how there are few quotes in the books which encourages people like me to look at life in different way for example I could not relate to the women here but I could see how in a society which is so different yet has the same patriarchal overlap most women might struggle to find honest love, career and success. The fact that women were blamed for failures of men ( 😒) is so common right. I loved the art and the simplicity of the book. I do disagree in certain parts, however, I think it might be due to cultural differences which affects one’s views too. Still love it and would recommend it.

While I loved lot of things about this books as she is relatable in wanting to read whole day next to a water body like sea and lake. I just wish the English verison of the South Korean books mentioned were always accurate cause it was difficult to find most books and still is. I also disagree with the part about empathizing with certain people because I can not imagine acknowledging and empathizing with a person who is violent towards others. I get that the author did not support the violent person but still. Also moving out of one’s country to lead a peaceful and better lives as well as relationship between a reader, books and author is so well explained.

Oh my heart broke for Sunam and though Chaeryeong suffered, I still hated how instead of growing into a better person she still brought her classist and problematic selfish mindset to Sunam. It’s heartbreaking to learn how much these women suffered under Japans colonialism and it is weird how Japan does not give reparations for war. But then Japanese colonialism is rarely discussed even in other countries outside China and Korea they colonized. Junpies character turned out exactly like how men who love bomb do. I do highly recommend this book . I couldn’t mark it for enjoyment because it is about suffering of women. Learned about new places in Korea and China , and unfortunately one concentration camp by Japan whose description on reading reminded me of Dachua concentration camp memorial. Like how cruel one has to be to treat people so inhumanely and justify that violence. And learned even about Chinese women being mistreated and victims of war crimes. Phew ! Ganghwis character was like okay. I mean not much to understand him except I grew to like him in the end cause of him being the only man with basic human decency and love towards Sunam. Rest just deserve imprisonment for violence 💁🏻♀️
