first read this book back in 2023 when i was at the angsty, ripe age of 16! i… definitely didn’t get it at the time; not that i would fully get it now three years later but i’d like to believe that i did get it MORE than i once did (urgh word soup)

ive talked about how the themes of this book is very important to our current sociological and political climate more than ever after doomscrolling a bit too much recently (seeing all those reels about anthropic cutting and burning books for hours on end is not good for the mind) yet even with that there’s still this wall of mental block that keeps me from truly sitting down with myself and giving this book a long reading session.

the reason for this is because of emmett and lucian and how they were written by the author, like, i vividly remember being so, so, so angry by their actions that i gave this novel a whopping 3 stars and wished i had it in me to give it less wwww but we’ll see if my opinion changes this time 🕺

"He reads histories and mythologies and fairy tales, wondering why it seems that only girls are ever swept away from their mundane lives on farms by knights or princes or wolves. It strikes him as unfair to not have the same fanciful opportunity himself. And he is not in the position to do any rescuing of his own."

Give this young boy his princess fairy-tale already

    Thoughts on reflection

When I finished Rebecca last December I didn’t really care for it, but in the months since it’s stuck with me. I don’t know exactly what’s changed, but I think I’m much fonder of it with the benefit of hindsight. Honestly, I think it’d sing on a reread

That being said the brownface costume party is still crazy lmao

  • Pride and Prejudice
    Thoughts from 24%

About a quarter of the way in and i’m kinda disappointed. I feel like this book is so hyped up but i’m clearly not seeing what others are. I think maybe the issue is I’m more of a gothic romance person than romance? Probably doesn’t help that I read Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre right before this. The plot so far just seems rather flat and the characters arent all that interesting to me.
