I was worried I wouldnt like this book because of the sci-fi elements and I sadly was correct. I did read this book in one day because I was intrigued as to how it was going to end, but I don't know if the ending was worth it to me. While I thought the author's prose was great, this just wasn't for me....so take my review with a grain of salt.
I was confused throughout most of this book and had no idea what was happening and why it was happening. I think that's why I dont like sci-fi, because there usually isn't an explanation. It just is. I read this book because I hate DNFing my in-person book club books and I like to discuss the book in its entirety with everyone. I think I need to stay away from sci-fi from now on.

People raving about this book have just never read good books before. It isnt anything new. Time travel books are old as time. This book isnt special. The idea of charachters in different times coming together isnt a new concept. However the vibes of the book were... tranquill. So ill give it a 3 for vibes and writing style. It was a relaxing read before bed for me.

I'm having trouble getting interested now. I don't want to dnf it; I'm trying to struggle through. I'm disappointed because I liked the first bit so much 😔 maybe it'll catch me again if I keep going 😐. Mirella and Olive just aren't doing it for me so far. They're both kind of dry characters I feel like.

To the bad reviews and people who failed to finish the book:
Youre just like Dolores.
The point of the book's academic density is to seperate the matriarch-minded-readers from the Deloriads. It is okay if you cant read higher brow texts. But to call the book bad and rate it one star because youre not an erudite reader is a bit dense as well.
The book is a wet cough in the desert. There is supposed to be a struggle to read it and to understand whats going on. Because our less intelligent characters are also struggling to understand whats going on. The cruel nature of their society is mirroring the unapologetically intelligent author. There is an ounce of "you get it or you dont".
This book is a great challenge for those of us who have fallen into the easy-read-fiction-slop. Critical literacy is lost amongst most. And this book is a great way to teach your brain to absorb information that makes you work instead of just giving you flat out straightforward answers.
If a Fiction book is too hard for you to read then id hate to see you read philosophy.
Break out of your current reading level! Improve!! Stop using reading to escape and never progress. Use it to advance!
That is what this book is. Nasty and mean. Dont be a stupid fat backed Dolores.
