I love the concepts within Kabiu food stuffs - the seasonality of foods and that farming animals (at least for the Ragi) isn't done. I also love the risk of alkaloids fine for Atevi that are no bueno for humans (and I particular love Atevi enthusiasm for foods from the tomato family :D which they mention later but I figure isnt a spoiler)

This is an absolutely smashing book that is illuminated in a way that feels semi -graphic novel with a beautiful breakdown of major key events across medical european history and the knock on effects of them told in a very engaging way and illustrated by one of the archaeologists from Time Team! At the end of the book Eleanor describes discusses how amorphous the boundary of the "end" of the "Middle Ages" is and how several different academics define the end of that era through specific events and why they do so.
This book is great for precocious late primary kids through high school to stodgy adults. I cannot recommend it high enough for this list.
