I may end up switching from audiobook to the print copy of this book. I'm not a fan of Magnus Carlssen as a narrator....🤷🏽♀️

What this book really highlighted for me was the importance of community. And maybe if you live in a small town it can be all of your neighbours, but if your like me and live in the city with too many people around (and ironically no direct actual neighbours hahaha) you might have to look somewhere else for it, but it is still so important. For me, this is my church community.
For me this was extra evident in that I read this book the day after a (church) friends wedding. And while our community deffenitely has a lot more we could be doing, there are so many tiny ways that we support each other that I'm so greatful for. Wherenever someone has a baby, a meal train is organised. People bring boxes of extra fruit from their trees to share. And for this wedding, so many people did so many things to make the couples dream wedding come true in a way they could afford. I, and others, baked. People set up and packed down the venues. The dresses and dinner (though still paid for) were made by friends. I currently have the bride's bouquete hanging in my laundry to dry. And one day, when I get married, I don't expect her to bake. But I don't need her to. I didn't do it in the hope that one day she might do the same for me. But I know that she, and so many of the others, will do what they can for me when that day comes, and on so many days before and after.
I guess I'm just super greatful for my community, and hope to keep growing a gift economy in whatever ways that I can.
