ultimately the ending saved this one for me. i feel like the author had a message they wanted to say and created this prequel as a way to say it. it’s such an important message reflecting on todays political climate, and i do appreciate that. in fact it has become more relevant in recent years in ways the author probably didn’t even expect, or if she did then she’s a genius. what i struggled with was i LOVED the original trilogy and this just didn’t hit the same punch. it was very political and i struggled with the multi-pov. i still enjoyed it however, and the ending made it all worth it, for sure.

i enjoyed this one much more than i thought i would. the atmosphere and environment was lush. the character were believable and enjoyable and i loved the course it took. would have been 5* if it weren’t for the epilogue as it just felt unnecessary
