I like my castles cold, my moors windswept, and my heroines swooning.

It felt like the author was so intent on writing poetic lines that the plot, characters, and message got buried under the flowery prose.
I switched to the audiobook after DNFing the print version TWICE (I was yawning after 4 pages). The narrator was WAY more entertaining although the singing parts were a bit too screechy for me (more issue with the audio editing than the singer).
I love fairy tales and anything involving the fae but to me this story fell flat. Everything happened too quickly or not quick enough and some repetitive phrases (or singing in this case) that work very well in traditional fairy tales didn't translate with the same amount of impact.
The ending, however, was surprisingly satisfying. (trying really hard not to write spoilers here) The instrument and the punishment part was written so perfectly I've decided I'll round up review to 2,5 stars instead just 2.
I really wanted to like The River Has Roots but it's simply not for me it seems.

I never know how to rate modern romance books because none of them are pinnacles of literary fiction lol
Itās not painful to read, except for the brief daddy kink that came out of nowhere, yikes.
A perfect book for someone who doesnāt want to use any brain cells while reading.
And on a personal note: it got me out of my reading slump! š„³
Post from the Botanical Curses and Poisons: The Shadow-Lives of Plants forum
My favorite plant is bluebell (because I love fairies) followed by hellebore (they are already blooming in my garden!) and lily of the valley (so sweet yet so toxic).
The beauty of monotropa uniflora (ghost plant) shook me more than its lore. I would never have thought it's a real plant, absolutely ethereal!
