I'm a little picky about the books I choose to read when it comes to fiction. Non-fiction, not so much. Favorite genres are contemporary romance, fantasy and action-thrillers!

Her beef with Darren, lol. The part about gift economies working in small, tight-knit communities had me thinking about anarchy. Does anyone else feel like what's written in this book is pointing towards a society with less hierarchies and more individual action to take control of their lives, instead of waiting for some higher, all-encompassing authority to enact change?

This was a very interesting read with a lot of interesting ideas to ponder over. We are so used to a scarcity mindset, a world where competition is prioritized over collaboration, that on first glance, the concept of gift economies seems to go against the very fabric of nature. But as you read on, you realize it's not the gift economies that are unnatural, it's our current economies that exploit and know no end, that are out of place. Gift economies are the way forward, I believe, and this book is an excellent introduction to the topic.

Studying business administration makes it really clear how far away the world is from this kind of thinking. The concept of gift economies is foreign, alien, counter-productive even. Everything is profit, profit, profit. To give something away without exacting a price is foolishness, sacrilege even.

Ugh, this isn't looking too good, but I'll keep at it a while longer in case things take a turn.
