I find it supa interesting that kenji makes comparisons abt what is japanese and what is not (ie. Japanese killing style) it really makes you wonder whether the paranoia towards frank being a killer is actually True or just because he's overthinking things and reading too much into it

Kenji is actually so smart and attentive. He observes Frank’s mannerism, can tell when to intervene because things might get ugly. His line of job is not very ethical yes but I like him as the narrator voice so far

“Is it beneficial for you to be filled with pity above all else? And is it beneficial to those who suffer for you to be filled with pity?”
Phenomenal, 5 stars.
Also a remark, I absolutely love the last sentence of the book that has resolute hope in the face of nihility (haha is that not a paradox?). Indeed may we persevere and “be proficient in hanging on to thin ropes and possibilities, and even in dancing on the brink of the abyss.”

I have no idea why the book is the way it is atm. The plot and world building of this book is very interesting but they’re dampened with cheap, overused romantasy tropes. The FMC is inconsistent, the banter between FMC and MMC is awkward, they don’t have much chemistry with each other and the progress of the plot is so slow to make way for developing FMC/MMC relationship (which isn’t even done well.) I really had higher hopes for this given the interesting premise and I loved What The River Knows duology but so far this is pretty underwhelming.
