The idea of a baker saving a city with a gingerbread army and giant gingerbread golems is such a fun and creative concept. The characters are genuinely funny and act exactly how you’d expect them to, which makes the story even more enjoyable. I really liked how Mona is aware that, as a 14-year-old girl, she shouldn’t be the one responsible for saving the entire city, it makes her feel more real and relatable. The Duchess being portrayed as a bit of a coward was also a nice touch, since it shows that not everyone in power actually knows what they’re doing. Bob and the Gingerbread Man were definitely my favorites; they added so much personality and humor to the story

I’ve been wondering if there are people who don’t keep a TBR list at all and just go with the flow. Recently, I found myself reading whatever book I happen to come across.

A little take from the scene where Mona was talking to her Uncle Earl regarding being a hero.
As much as we admire our heroes, they should never have been put in those situations in the first place. While their courage and sacrifices are often rewarded with medals, praise, and public recognition, these honors do not erase the psychological and emotional scars they carry. Trauma does not disappear simply because suffering is reframed as heroism. Celebrating their resilience should not blind us to the reality that the harm they endured was preventable, and that no amount of recognition can truly compensate for the cost of that pain.
