oh my GOD. what the HELL was that. i ate that up like a big juicy burger after starving for days.

this book is scathing, emotionally harrowing, addictively written, well-constructed, and worth every ounce of praise it gets.

natalie is insufferable and complicated - she’s mean, obsessive, narcissistic, and ambitious, making her a one-of-a-kind main character. she’s just… such. a. bitch. watching her life is like watching an inevitable train wreck in slow motion.

the absurdity of the political landscape only makes it more realistic - the fanatical followers, the pointless online discourse, the bastardisation of American Christianity, and the new world of surveillance-like media all play as much of a role in the story as natalie herself. they play her guiding hand far more than God.

something else i loved was that the point of the whole damned thing is to be kind and forgiving, and that refusing to adapt to a changing, better world is a prison in itself.

I'm pretty sure this school is the ultimate manifestation of a capitalist system

If that sounds to you like an absolutely magnificent setup for an ambush, well, a significant number of mals agreed. I got jumped twice in the first week of classes.

I dunno why but the term "jumped" in a fantasy setting is so funny to me😂😂😂
