Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.

Fun question that popped up in one of my reading discords. I am currently reading a non-fiction, and I would be farming yams in Jamaica. Honestly sounds like a good time to me lol.

Hey everyone! As we dive into a new month, I thought it would be a great time to check in on our reading journeys! Whether you’re a voracious reader, in a reading slump (like me) or just picking up the habit, I’d love to hear about your progress. I just finished my first book of August yesterday—"The Naturals" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes! It was such a thrilling read, and I couldn't put it down. Now, I’m currently reading "Collide" by Bal Khabra, and I'm enjoying it so far. I wanted to ask everyone on their reading progress and what you're currently reading this month and to-be-read books for this month! I think it it would be cool if some of us have the same books lined up in our August tbr, and of course I'm looking for interesting reads/recommendations in your August reads. Whether it’s a highly anticipated release or a hidden gem you've been meaning to read Feel free to drop your thoughts! Let’s inspire each other and keep the reading momentum going. Happy reading! 📖✨

Very summer, I'm packed with work and other pesky things that keep me away from the cozy reading corner of my house... So I start reading between lunch break on my working place or subway stations. I was wondering where do you prefer to read? Outside, inside, with friends or alone?

When i was a kid id bring my book everywhere leading to an embarrassing photo collection of me reading in various ridiculous places: My dads pig shed, in a wheelbarrow, on top of a haystack, on my uncles roof. So my question is what is the strangest place you used to read as a kid or adult?!

i feel like i have no words left to describe how much i enjoyed this book. this was, somehow, even better than the priory of the orange tree, but i do strongly believe having read potot first made it that much more enjoyable. the world building and the setting were solidly depicted in the earlier parts of the novel, but having it all in mind coming from potot made it more real and comprehensive an experience! the magic of this one lies fully in the characters (where potot was a stronger mix of plot and characters). the main characters are imperfect and so easy to love, relate to and root for. yes, even in spite of some annoyance sometimes (cough tunuva. i liked her and understand why we were following her point of view, but i found esbar and siyu more interesting to my personal taste). if i had to pick a weak point it would be the plot. the author's hand could be felt in some plot points, with lackluster buildup, which could feel a bit forceful (looking at glorian and wulf's storyline which was, from the start, a little too convenient). but so much of the overarching plot was well fleshed out, i still find it strong overall. as expected, the worldbuilding and the prose were perfect and polished and i absolutely love samantha shannon. oh and the amount of queerness! loooove the sapphic relationships all over, the bi and ace rep, the nonbinary characters (which i don't think there was in potot?). i love this universe so much ❤️

i might get my feelings hurt with this one because there are a lot of well known/popular writers that i really love and enjoy. i read a freida mcfadden book recently and was genuinely disappointed. i grew up on agatha christie and i generally really enjoy mysteries/thrillers, and its been so long since i've enjoyed a good mystery. unfortunately for me, the writing felt very simplistic(? idk if that's the best word for it) and did not impress me at all. yes, this is a risk we all run when taking opinions/thoughts from strangers online, but i'm wondering if there are any super hyped up authors that you didn't/couldn't like at all. (this is exlcuding any authors you don't like because they are problematic in some way or the other)

I can't actually binge read anything. It's so frustrating when it comes to reading goals and suspenseful stories, but I genuinely can't. I reach a point where I get so tired, so 'full' with the story I've found that I need time to soak it in bfr being immensely excited to continue. Thats why I read multiple books at the same time, I need a break from most stories to fully enjoy them Does anyone else feel like this? Ik so many ppl like to binge do things, but I've genuinely never been able to resonate with the 'I couldn't put it down' or 'I finished it in a day' statements. If I try to I get book burnout. Today I read about 80 pages, and when I finished I was so overwhelmed 😭 it's not book specific either, it happens with every single one, just at different paces
