This is either going to make me cry or want to make cookies. Probably both. I am in love with almost every character already.

This can be a really confusing ride, although I think I handled myself better with this one than the first one. It also probably didn't help that it's been over a year since I read the last one and I have the memory of a gnat. I did try and keep track of every character, but that ended up taking up too much space on my little notebook and the connections got overlapped. Maybe if I properly mapped it out better I could have had a better handle. Either way, it wasn't too bad, although maybe like a list of characters and their abilities (at the end) so we can at least be sure we understood at the end.

Obviously, like I said in my last review, I like the way that Turnbull uses the idea of "monsters" to discuss political and cultural issues - especially around race, sexuality, and gender. I think it is a wonderful exploration that also makes it easier for an audience maybe not as enmeshed in the language outside of the book to understand. I think this is truly commendable.

I would die for Dragon but people need to stop dying for Dragon. He needs people who live for him.
