My thoughts..although I enjoyed each of the books, this one might be my favourite. It was a great ending for the story itself and I will definitely be reading the standalones. However, I still feel like the world building was not completed finished and we didn't get closure. I want a bit of history for the different lands and it's creatures. Maybe I am holding out hope for explainations in the standalones? I don't know, I was a bit dissappointed with that. I also noticed a lot of repetition when it comes to dialogue that I was not a fan of throughout the book. In terms of the character development, it was better than the previous books and I appreciated that. I will say that the events did surprise me even though I kind of saw it coming. I enjoy this book and the trilogy thoroughly. If you like alien romance with a sprinkle of creative creature creation, this maybe your trilogy.

Although I reread the first book, I didn't read the rest of the books in the trilogy until now. I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. The terms and language was easier to understand and we got to know the characters a bit more. However, again I am missing the world-building, character development and slight gaps in the plot. I do like the characters, but the growth of the characters is not apparent except for maybe Ivy. I want to see more questioning and more contemplation around the characters. The plot was a bit slow for me, but once it got near the end I was waiting with anticipation. Again, where is the backstory of the vrix. I am interested to know where they came from(I still have a theory). Overall, I enjoyed this story, but the gaps seem to be getting a bit bigger with each book. From what I read, it looks like the trilogy may end with a cliche, but nonetheless I am excited to read what happens.

This is my second time reading the book and found myself enjoying it more the second time than the first time. Throughout the beginning I found myself struggling with the terms used. Although I began to understand it later on, it did impact my reading experience. Maybe that was intentional as we learn while the main character, Ivy Fostsr learns? Besides the terms, the story overall is missing some key world building elements that I wish was explained more such as how the vrix came to be(I have a theory about this one) or the reason humans decided to have this trip. This is the first book in the trilogy so I expect the development of the world to happen more in the other books, but I wish we were given more content. I also struggled with the overall development of relationships between some of the characters. Not so much with the our main characters, but with the side characters. The occurences in the book did not leave me as surprised as I hoped for. On a positive, my favourite thing out of the book is the overarching structure of the plot. It was smooth and left me wanting to know what happens next.

Did I laugh while reading this book? Yes. Did I enjoy reading the book? Yes. Was it a masterpiece? No. This book felt like a romantic comedy that didn't have a whole lot of substance, but nonetheless I enjoyed it. It is a book that involves an out of place vampire, a quirky artisty woman and constant use of the phrase "looking at it as if it was the most interesting thing in the world." It was enjoyable read..just missing key elements that would make it cohesive. If you are looking for a read that is simple, comedic and with a lot of modern day reference..this is your book.
