This book might not be literary fiction, but I enjoyed every moment from start to finish. I figured out a few things along the way but was still surprised when the full plot was revealed at the end. I thought that the connection between the two main characters was really warm and nice to spend time with especially in a thriller where you can feel a bit unmoored. Also liked the unconventional choice to have the two characters’ narratives interwoven in along two different timelines for the majority of the book. Again, it kept the mystery rooted in a historical foundation that I think worked really well. If you have the option to listen to the audio version, I can not recommend more highly. The production, the voice actors, the interspersing of podcast “footage”: all of it was so satisfying and created a distinct atmosphere. Was not surprised at all to hear Karen and Georgia of My Favorite Murder acknowledged at the end. Any podcast, mystery, or true crime lovers will also love this book, I think.
