Lockwood, with all sincerity, who the fuck do you think you are.

Also Aimee Lou Wood is slaaaaying this narration. Just perfection and so hilarious! I did not expect this book so be so funny and she makes it even more so

I also don't remember Lockwood being so funny, but maybe that's because now I can't help but picture him as Nate Archibald. So pretty, so dumb 😄 (from the OG Gossip Girl, thanks; this new one is a travesty but that's another subject)

I have to be honest I started this mostly to see why people are so mad about the movie and okay. He literally gets described as dark skinned in the first pages. Okay

As an avid classics reader from a young age, I somehow haven’t gotten around to this one until now. I have seen a couple of film adaptations and the story was never my favourite which I think is why I never bothered with the book.

But I have seen the argument of “Jacob Elordi is a white man, he can’t be Heathcliff” and all the discourse around both this casting and previous ones. I want to be able to back up all this myself as someone who believes you must respect source material, so I’m determined to highlight every line that points towards Heathcliff’s ethnicity to pull out when someone tells me “it never says that”

We are five pages in and it’s already described Heathcliff at “dark skinned” so I think we are done đŸ™‚â€â†•ïž

I read these when they first came out and loved them, really excited to reread them. I probably don’t remember half the plot at this point, just that this series is truly excellent and this first book especially is brilliant.
