Contrary to the book cover, there are no cats at all in this story.

Similar to other Japanese books of similar genres I've read previously, this book is a collection of short stories (The Lovers, Husband and Wife, The Sisters, and Mother and Child). In Japan, there's a little nondescript cafe, where there is a specific seat that allows you to time travel. You can only take the seat when the ghost who normally takes that seat vacates it for their daily break, and you must drink all the coffee before it turns cold, otherwise you will never return to the present. Nothing you do or say during the time travel will actually change things in the future, so why would anyone ever want to go back to the past?

While you can't change the future, every person who comes back from their time travel is changed, and whatever questions they had were resolved. Going back to the past helps the characters in the book to move forward with more clarity and courage.

Explaining ideas by structuring them as a series of conversations between a master and a student (the reader) is a novel and pretty good way to teach someone. Unfortunately, it was still difficult to follow the concepts of Adlerian psychology for a casual read, as someone who has zero knowledge about philosophy.

While Wade was not a likeable protagonist, the plot in the first book was engaging enough for me to push through and finish it. I'm gonna have to give up on this one though.
