Margaret Atwood

As a lover of dark and dystopian themes, this book really was really a great treat. From how Margaret described the world of Gilead to Offred’s past and all the other details, it made me feel like I was there, seeing the flowers that Offred sees during her walk, the white curtains, the Red Centre, it was an overload of imagination.
The story itself had me gasping here and there and some tears were shed. The emotions of Offred, despite her not showing any in some parts of the book, was very palpable that it made me feel for her.
Margaret Atwood’s writing is one of the best writings I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. The style, how on point yet very poetic in its own-self was another treat I happily indulged in. It not only set the tone of the world building but the tone of Offred and everything around her.
The ending, though disappointed with how it ended, still has me wanting for more. I wanted more of the story, more of The Commander and Serena Joy’s story. It had me yearning and I think Margaret has done a magnificent job if this is what it has left me with.
Would definitely recommend if you like gruesome descriptions of death, dark and dystopian stories. I don’t think I will be forgetting about this book anytime soon.
