This book hit a little too close to home in more ways than I care to mention. I'll be chewing on this one awhile.

I just can't get over the fact that the big, tuff son of a serial killer is actually a goober named Josh. 😐

People are right - the audiobook is worth it. It's fun, fast, doesn't take itself seriously. Did I literally grimace at some of the dialog? Yes. Did I also cackle at some of it? Yes. And at the end of the day, they're cat people, so 🙏

I think I might just not be in a place in life to take in a book like this right now, but I found the pacing to be a struggle. I was definitely intrigued in the beginning, but things really dragged on the middle, and then took off again, almost startlingly so, around 80%. I think this could have benefitted from more culling or maybe being rewritten again as 2 or more books. It's well written and interesting enough, but I also found my interest waning in the beginning of the time jump. I don't know what would have felt like a "good" ending to me, but this felt trite and crammed in especially given how much room everything else has to breathe. I think it makes a lot of sense that this was a fanfic, based on the vignettes at the end and epilogue, but I don't think I personally needed them and think it would have been more impactful without.
